In case you haven’t heard, we are putting on a show this Sunday at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn with Chris Gethard, The Blank Postcards, Plow United, and the ridiculously prolific Mikey Erg.
Last year, Mikey put out a flexi-disc called Fucifier made up of five insane thrash songs, clocking in at under 4 minutes. Really the only thing close to it in Mikey’s discography is the Ergs’ Thrash Compactor 7”.
Just how good is this record? Well, when it came out, the
tastemakers tastehavers people at Punknews reviewed it and, in their infinite wisdom, gave it a whopping 2/5 stars. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about it…
There’s no real direct target that Erg is trying to attack and occasionally his frenzied shouts deteriorate into primal grunts and yells with no actual words being uttered. As for the music itself it’s five thirty-second fast, manic, thrashy bursts of hardcore with no breaks or signs of slowing down with the exception of a bridge in the last song. It’s the equivalent of a speeding car burning down a highway, slowing down for just a second before blasting through a guardrail.
Hold on. We thought this was supposed to be a bad review? Because the way they just described it sounds fucking awesome. Wait, it goes on…
I hope this helped dissolve Mikey’s anger because any further exploration in this field by him would just be a waste of the talent that we all know he has. You’re better than this, Mikey.
respectfully disagree with you there, Punknews. Which is why we are fucking amped to announce that after Mikey’s solo set at our show, he is going to play Fucifier in its entirety with Plow United as the backing band. The songs have never been played live before. This should prove to be either amazing or a total disaster. Either way, it will be a great time.
And we haven’t even mentioned the other special guest joining Mikey on stage. You’ll probably just have to buy your damn tickets and get your ass there to find out.
