Show Review: 311, Cypress Hill, and G. Love & Special Sauce in Philly

Apparently, Cypress Hill, 311, and G. Love and Special Sauce are all still around. We personally didn’t believe it so we sent poor Gregg Gethard to check out their show in Philly last night and report back with his findings. [Gregg Gethard is a writer and also a pretty bad comic. He co-hosts the Holding Court Podcast which is only sort of about basketball and might return soon]

Here are things I saw at the concert:

1. We got there late, so I had to miss G-Love and perhaps Special Sauce (who was probably at Belle and Sebastian across town like everyone else). I was fine with that since, really, it’s G-Love.

2. There was a really big fight right before we entered, with LiveNation security rolling deep on a woman. After this prole was dragged away, a security guard asked for a alcohol gauze pad. “She spit in my face.”

But after numerous attempts to listen, we couldn’t make it past 3 or 4 songs without wanting to donate our ears to science. And this thing goes on for 11 songs. We did skip ahead to the Courtney Love song, which is actually an embarrassment to Fall Out Boy, which is saying something. Save Rock and Roll is possibly the most disastrously bad album since the last time Fall Out Boy released an album.

But not everyone hated it as much as we did. Here are some actual quotes from 4 and 5-star reviews of the album on Amazon…

Review: Barred For Life: How Black Flag’s Iconic Logo Became Punk Rock’s Secret Handshake / PM Press

If you’re reading this, chances are pretty good that you have a Black Flag bars tattoo. And you probably think it makes you pretty special, huh? Well, bad news: It doesn’t. Thousands of people have The Bars permanently branded on their flesh. Tens of thousands, even. It’s arguably the most common music-related tattoo out there. But is it more meaningful than just a tattoo? Barred For Life is a book that seeks an answer to that question.
